It was great to attend the Express & Star Heroes awards last night with Cllr Linda Leach.
The awards celebrated the people from across the Black Country doing truly incredible things.
From heroes who go beyond the call of duty to incredible community champions. I was truly humbled to celebrate their achievements with them.
I was particularly pleased to see Hugh Porter receive a special recognition award for his incredible contributions to sport and charity over the years.
Interestingly, Hugh grew up in Ettingshall! He lived on Myatt Avenue and went on to become one of Britain’s greatest former professional cyclists, winning four world titles in the individual pursuit – more than any other rider – as well as a Commonwealth Games gold medal in 1966.
