National Allotment week

This week is National Allotments Week! I have recently been working with Howell Road allotments in Ettingshall and spent time there this week with Shaun Aldis CEO of Wolverhampton Homes and Steve Woodward, Head of City Environment at Wolverhampton Council.

Tracey, runs a tight ship at the Ettingshall site where every plot is occupied and there is a waiting list to get a chance to grow your own veg.

Howell Road allotment site will be hosting their annual open day this Saturday 17th August at 12PM where there will be fresh produce for sale (potatoes, onions, tomatoes etc.) and family fun including tombola and hook-a-duck for the children! If you’d like to attend then pop along on Saturday from 12PM Howell Road, WV2 1JG.

I am pleased to have the support of Wolverhampton Homes and the city council to support the volunteers at Howell Road with an upcoming community project.

Without the hard work of volunteers like Tracey and others, local people wouldn’t be able to reap the benefits of amazing green space like this. As well as individual plots, Tracey has raised beds which are offered out the vulnerable community groups who spend hours out in the open air. I am looking to support them with upcoming projects to enhance the amazing work that they already do here.

Wolverhampton has 33 allotment sites with a whopping 1400 plots across the city. If you are interested in acquiring a plot in the city then you can visit: https://www.wolverhampton.gov.uk/community/allotments?fbclid=IwAR0-BG3ZUDZRfc7YEtUZHEgDyw618XsJfo_33hTOln9tygUWK95kZkXjIUU
