On Sunday, I led a team of local volunteers as we undertook our first speedwatch in a bid to crackdown on speeding in Ettingshall.
We were joined by local PCSOs and police officers as we held two speedwatches in Ettingshall.
Over 95 vehicles were subject to the speedwatch and approximately 12 were caught speeding. The highest speed caught was 45mph in the 30mph zones. But, for those that were caught, the police pulled them over and prevention and intervention work with those drivers will be pursued by the Road Harm Reduction Team.
Speeding continues to be a concern for many members of our community in Ettingshall and we have set up this group to ensure that we play a role in developing safer communities here in Wolverhampton.
The scheme aims to cater for the problem of real or perceived speed related offending, and through partnership with the community it is to be used in circumstances that are necessary, justifiable and proportionate in order to:
– Reduce death and injury on the roads
-Improve the quality of life for local communities
-Reduce the speed of vehicles to the speed limit
Speedwatch activity is not about interfering with neighbours’ behaviour; it is a proactive solution to improve the safety and quality of life for everyone in the community.
