Earlier this week, I visited the Springvale bowling club on Millfields Road in my ward.
I’d initially visited them to discuss some issues that the club were facing but concluded the meeting by committing myself to a game of bowls!
The group are part of a wider, popular league in the Midlands which sees men, women and children participate in the light touch sport.
They helped me understand the benefits of the sport, particularly for elderly people who may be experiencing mobility issues.
The wider league have a CEO and development worker who will be working to bring the sport into local schools. I will be supporting them to access local funding streams to enhance the work they are doing.
