Government’s new funding formula for Nursery Schools threatens opportunities for children in Ettingshall

I have visited Windsor Nursery School in Ettingshall on a number of occasions. This is a wonderful facility with great outdoors space for the children there and a truly wonderful staff team. The passion of the staff and the head teacher, Claire Foster, is really apparent. They appreciate that there is nothing more important than every child getting the best possible start in life and they work extremely hard to make sure each child reaches their full potential.

Claire’s personal commitment to the school is outstanding, she welcomes the children each morning on the front gates of the school. A really nice touch which I found quite moving, as I watched Claire on the gates it was apparent that she knew every child and parent’s name. Some of the children attending the school are excelling ‘against all odds’ but it is disappointing to hear of the Government’s proposed cuts to nursery funding which will make the job of nursery schools like Windsor much harder and put their future at risk.

At the moment, the impact of the new funding formula has been mitigated by transitional relief which is not guaranteed beyond 2019 / 2020. But, there are no guarantees after this, the Government must give Nursery Schools like Windsor some guarantees on what will happen post 2019 / 2020 otherwise the consequences could be ruinous. Pat McFadden MP (Wolverhampton South East) has been campaigning on this issue continuously in Parliament.

I will continue to support Nursery Schools like Windsor who do a fantastic job for our city.
