Last week, I took part in a scrutiny review of violent crime in Wolverhampton.

This group has been wonderfully chaired by Councillor Obaida Ahmed.

We covered a lot of topics including; the reduction of funding for West Midlands Police, the use of Stop & Search and much more.

We were joined by the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner and APCC Ashley Bertie.

The PCC’s office have committed to investing £2M over a two year period to tackle violent crime. There are funds available to all community and voluntary sector organisations including community groups, faith groups, not-for-profit organisations, community interest companies and social enterprises who are doing work in the area of tackling youth violence.

The investment follows an increase in gun crime in the West Midlands of almost 50% since 2012. Whilst knife crime has risen by 75% over the same period.

I hope many groups in Wolverhampton look into utilising the fund. For more information please click this link: https://www.westmidlands-pcc.gov.uk/news/news-2018/fund-to-tackle-gangs-and-violence-available/?fbclid=IwAR1DvJmDflHNhoE2rKCwoD7g4K7SrL10XqvGqxbpoGJm4sHRFQ6-4_dNOgc
