The key achievements as Digital Innovation Councillor Champion

I just delivered a presentation to our Scrutiny Board on my key achievements as Digital Innovation Councillor Champion for Wolverhampton City Council.

✔️ In the last 12 months, with the support of some incredible Councillors in the city who pledged ward funds, we got over 1500 devices out to children in the city who needed them to get online to work from home.

✔️ Our 5G roll-out has been accelerated by six months because of our proactive approach.

✔️ We’ve supported 60 care homes with devices in the city to ensure that elderly residents could still contact and connect with family and friends when they couldn’t have visitors because of restrictions.

✔️ Our WV Online Lending scheme has seen 195 devices go out to residents who need them to: apply for jobs, access services and access education.

✔️ We’ve rolled out parent and carer digital literacy courses to support parents to support their children get online safely and learn online.

✔️ Our 5G health pilots include a digital endoscopy project.

✔️ We are successfully rolling out our full fibre network.

These are to name just a few of my really proudest highlights. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this role and know that Wolverhampton are really on the map in terms of becoming a SMART connected city of the future. In 2019 when I started this role- Paris didn’t have 5G, Munich didn’t have 5G… but Wolverhampton did, so I think it’s fair to say that both locally, nationally and internationally we are on the map for our work in this area.

Anyway, I’m not crying … you’re crying ?
