The Great Get Together for Jo Cox MP

This weekend I held Wolverhampton’s (COVID safe) The Great Get Together in memory of Jo Cox MP who was sadly murdered in 2016.

I hosted members of the local community as well as key figures in the city including Pat McFadden MP and the Wolverhampton Mayor as they went ‘around the world’ at Howell Road Allotments in Ettingshall.

Plotholders cooked and baked incredible food from a range of different cultures and paired with lots of games, we had an incredible day remembering Jo and raising £370 for the Jo Cox Foundation.

A huge thanks to everyone that cooked, that attended and donated as we celebrated what we have in common.

Today is fives year since Jo Cox was brutally murdered, in her constituency, doing the job she loved as an MP.

She left such a legacy, even before entering Parliament, she had changed the lives of so many through her work at Oxfam where she was able to help so many people.

One of my favourite stories about Jo is that she loved being a mum so much to her two children that in Parliament she would vote in the Chamber in her cycling gear so that she could dash home and make it home for her children’s bedtime.

As much as her legacy lives on, we all just wish she was still here with us. Her death reminds us of where the politics of hate and division can lead to.

In her name, we remember her motto, that we have more in common than that which divides us and on Saturday, we remembered Jo and her motto at Howell Road Allotments

We planted a cherry tree in her name to remember her message of unity. We miss and love you Jo!
