It was great to be joined in Ettingshall by Cabinet Member for Adults Councillor Linda Leach as we discovered the benefits of bowling at the local Spring Vale bowling club in my ward recently.

We were invited to discover the health and wellbeing benefits of a game of crown green bowls when they were invited along to have a go at the popular sport.

The club has been a fixture of the local community since 1923 and provides an opportunity to members of all ages, particularly those who have retired, to take part in activities and to socialise. A number of young people also attend the club, developing a strong bond with its older members.

Personally, I had lots of fun and I’ve been supporting members to look at potential funding to help improve security.

As the Cabinet Member for Adults, Linda joined us and said that “being and staying active is such an important part of health and wellbeing for us all. Organisations like Springvale Bowling Club play a vital role in enabling our older residents to stay mobile, have fun and socialise.”

The club will be hosting a Bowling Opening Day on Friday 27 September from 6pm, with people interested in learning how to play bowls invited to come along. For further information, please email [email protected].

Finally, a big thank you to Councillor Olivia Birch for joining us, Olivia is a Director at Mid Counties Co-op who are in partnership with the club.
