Stopping speeding motorists

Our Labour-led Council listened to calls from both me and local residents about a hotspot for speeding and took action.

Last year, I set up a Neighbourhood Watch group on the new Persimmon estate close to Ward Street in Ettingshall.

It became apparent that the bridge that connects both Millfields Road and Ward Street was causing many local residents issues. Speeding motorists were using the bridge as a cut-through at all hours of the day and night.

Many residents would not allow their children out to play as they feared the speeding vehicles which were so common racing across the bridge.

I worked with the police, who already had a dome camera on the bridge, but this didn’t deter speeding motorists and the issue continued.

I fought hard for the residents to ensure that their voices were heard on this issue, and I am pleased to announce that yesterday the Council gated this bridge (from the Ward St side)

All of my constituents have the right to live in peace and hopefully, now, they will be able to. I’d like to thank the officers from Wolverhampton City Council for listening to pleas from both me and local residents on this issue.

The move comes amid calls from Wolverhampton South East MP Pat McFadden for tougher measures to prevent speeding in light of the recent incident on neighbouring Birmingham New Road where, tragically, two young children lost their lives.
