Presenting a cheque to a vital youth service

Earlier this week, I welcomed Wolverhampton’s Labour Leader Cllr Ian Brookfield to Ettingshall as he joined me in handing over a cheque for £500 to Oneighty Youth Club.

Youth services in Wolverhampton and across the country have been subject to brutal Tory cuts over the last decade. These cuts have cruelly seen the closing of many youth clubs and centres across the country.

I’m really pleased that our Labour Council created ‘ward funds’ for our local community groups like Oneighty to benefit from.

This small donation will go a long way in supporting this youth group based out of Excel Church in Ettingshall. The funds will be used to pay for activities and equipment for local children and young people to continue with their youth activities.

Our leader, Cllr Ian Brookfield has made it very clear from the start of his appointment in May that children and young people in our city are the future. He’s committed to rolling out our #YES strategy which is key to unlocking the potential of our young people, and the strategy has seen £2 million of additional funding set aside over the next three years to empower young people, students, and care leavers in our city.
