Planning Application rejected at the Millfields estate

Many local residents will know the fantastic shop on the Millfields estate in Ettingshall. Recently, there was a planning application put in to change the use of part of the shop on Coronation Road in to a takeaway.

Many local residents approached their local Councillors at our surgery about this a few months ago with many objections to this proposal. Although many residents used the shop they were concerned about noise issues, late night disturbances and the smell that a proposed takeaway would cause to the neighbourhood.

I shared residents’ concerns and held my own reservations due to the close proximity to Bilston C of E Primary School. The school has hundreds of children who pass by the shop each day and in a ward with 25.9% reported child obesity in 2017, I was sure that another takeaway would not help us fulfil our mission for a healthier ward.

I attended the Planning Committee meeting on today along with a resident and Councillor Zee Russell. I spoke at the meeting and expressed mine and the residents’ concerns about noise, anti-social behaviour, smell and the proximity to the primary school if a takeaway was to be developed.

I am pleased to report that the application was rejected today and would like to thank the local residents and Councillors for their support on this.
It is imperative that we support local businesses like this to develop but matters of health are also extremely important.
