My visit at Spurgeons

It was great to visit Spurgeons who are based in Ettingshall this week. Spurgeons work across our city to support young carers who are caring for a parent, grandparent, sibling or other relative by providing practical or emotional help.

It is brilliant news that the City of Wolverhampton Council has awarded them a new contract to provide this truly needed service.

It is estimated around 600 children and young people under the age of 16 in Wolverhampton – and another 1,800 young people aged 16 to 24 – caring for a parent, grandparent, sibling or other relative.

For a young person, caring for a relative and taking on practical / emotional responsibilities can be a huge pressure. The stress and anxiety that this can cause can leave them feeling isolated, and many sadly miss out on their childhood or struggle at school because of the pressures they are facing.

It is an incredibly difficult role to take on, but the wonderful support available from Spurgeons Wolverhampton Young Carers will help them to overcome some of these challenges.
