Meeting with the director of Persimmon (west mids) about the footpath closure

Over the last few weeks, I have been approached by parents from Bilston Church of England Primary School concerned at the proposed closure of the footpath by the school.

Persimmon were proposing to close the footpath (for 18 months) as a result of building works being carried out by them in the Ettingshall Village area. The closure of the footpath would mean an increase in journey times for parents and children from a few minutes to almost half an hour in some cases. As the darker winter nights (and mornings) are approaching, this is something that I was equally concerned about.

I’ve been working alongside local MP Pat McFadden on this issue to keep in touch with Persimmon about this. Today, we met with the Director of Persimmon (West Mids) and one of their officers and received some good news.

Persimmon will keep the path open until the half term holidays, following this the path will be closed for only three weeks after half term whilst a new path is being built for parents and children to use. The new path will then be open from 26th November 2018. For clarity, the path will be closed from 5th November – 26th November and then will be reopened.

This is a good result for both parents and children and I am grateful to Persimmon Homes for listening to the pleas from local Councillors, the MP and parents.
