Howell Road allotments are the only allotments in the city with a waiting list. They don’t just provide allotments for individual use but community groups too. The benefits are endless.
Local community groups including care homes for the elderly and schools who cater for children with disabilities often use the community raised beds to grow and plant vegetables. When I visited the allotments over the summer, Tracey who manages them told me they are desperate for another raised bed in order to provide a greater service to the community.
I took this challenge on and approached local businesses and organisations for help. I’m pleased to say that thanks to a joint effort by me, Lovell Homes, Wolverhampton Homes and City of Wolverhampton College, Howell Road allotments will have their additional raised bed built for the community next year!
I’d like to say a special thank you to Earl from Lovell Homes for making this project a reality, he managed to get a huge amount of bricks donated for this project from a local supplier.
