Bilston C of E School’s first socially distanced teaching and learning committee

I’m a proud school Governor at an incredible school in Wolverhampton, Bilston C of E School and we had our first socially distanced teaching and learning committee recently.

Like all schools across the country, children and young people in the local area. have experienced unprecedented disruption to their education as a result of Coronavirus.

Those from the most vulnerable and disadvantaged backgrounds will be among those hardest hit.

Recent figures from the Education Policy Institute show that children in Wolverhampton would fall almost 19 months behind their better-off peers by the time they sit their GCSEs.

And, it is through the sheer determination, hard work and interventions of schools like Bilston C of E that will see this gap bridged.

I’m incredibly proud of how the school have handled both the lockdown and restart amid the pandemic, their thorough safety measures but most of all their impressive ‘catch up’ intervention plan to ensure that no child is left behind.

We had an impressive vision set out by the head teacher Gary Gentle, and as a Governor, I will do all that is possible to ensure that these children have the best possible start in life.
